Born with a passion to perform, the half Cuban and Greek starlet has been acting and singing since the age of 7. She got her start in New York regional theater, and has since starred in over two dozen theatrical productions including Annie, The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, The Wiz, and Gypsy.
A native New Yorker, she currently stars as Meadow Soprano in the critically acclaimed HBO original series, "Sopranos, The" (1999). For her work on the show, she received the 1999 and 2000 Hollywood Reporter YoungStar Awards for Best Young Actress in a Dramatic Television Series and both 2001 and 2002 ALMA nominations. Jamie also has a SAG Award for The Sopranos Best Ensemble Cast.
Beyond Sopranos, Jamie has been busy making a name for herself as a remarkably multi-talented young woman. She made her Broadway debut, starring as Belle in Disney's Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast in October of 2002 through February 2003. Jamie also recently published her revealing autobiography, Wise Girl (Pocket Books) to rave reviews and completed her first feature film, Extreme Dating (2003). She also starred in the recent Mariah Carey video for the pop diva's latest single, "Through the Rain." Last summer, she starred in the touring production of Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella, playing the lead opposite Eartha Kitt as her fairy godmother.
Jamie, who battled with an eating disorder in the late 1990's while starring on the Sopranos, is now a spokeperson for the National Eating Disorders Association (www.nationaleatingdisorders.org). She explains, "I went public with my eating disorder because I wanted to make some good come of this terrible episode in my life. I want to reach young girls and let them know that there is a way out; there is help available. No one should have to suffer in silence."
Jamie has demonstrated her strength and determination time and time again. A few years ago, she was paralyzed from the waist down for several days with Lyme Disease. Her recovery has given her a fresh outlook on her work and her life.
Jamie is from Jericho (Long Island, New York) and currently resides in New York City. She was recently married in July of 2003 to her manager AJ Discala.
