Matthew Penn, son of Arthur Penn ("Bonnie and Clyde") was born and raised in New York City. He began his career as an actor and appeared in 8 films and over 30 plays. He began his directing career at Ensemble Studio Theater. Mr. Penn followed that by directing theatrically in numerous venues both Off-Broadway and regionally. Mr. Penn began his television career with "Law & Order" (1990). He has directed extensively for that series and also "NYPD Blue" (1993).

He received an Emmy nomination for directing Julia Roberts in Law and Order's episode #200. He is a member of Ensemble Studio Theater, the Actors' Studio and the Director's Guild of America. Mr. Penn continues to live with his wife and two children on Manhattan's Upper West side.
